TO TTTH EDITOR. Sir,-— Anyone perusing the Press records ef the day must notice an anomaly, specially striking when applied to New Zealand. Oq the one band a glut of money seeking employment; on the other the farmer—-the stay of the country—suffering under unfair conditions la disposing of hia produce, groping his way to a remedy, which is practicable, but is denied him for want ol some temporary accommodation. What are the banks doing ? We have two adopting titles and setting up special claims as Now Zealand institutions. I ark : Do not tho banka accept from the exporting merchant the very same sacorifcy that the farmer is wanting to obtain an advance on 1 I* it New Zealand finance to prefer a second to a first mortgage? I* it New Zealand nationality to support the farmer’s antes©' nist 7 When Mr Bathgate pointed out that tm banka’ action on the late oommeroia] depression waa " a contraction 01L3,000,000,’ one thought, how m&fcrpotlve to know the channel this waa drawn from, and to com pan it with tho direction the imbeequeni expansion takes, I need not be told of the more remote circles this expansion will include —say in a conplo of years—but 1 should like to trace tho earlier flow.—3 ,Ml * t0 '- M.C.
