FIRE.

A firo broke out at half-past four o’clock this morning in a shop at the North-east Valley occupied by Mr Henry Bloxbam, painter, and spread to an adjoining shop occupied by Mr Henry Miller, chemist. Owing to the scarcity of water both buildings were speedily consumed. The two shops formerly constituted one building, known as the Cattle Market Hotel. Mr Bloxbam bad his stock insured in the Transatlantic office for L 125, and his furniture and effects for Ll2o in the North British ; but estimates his loss at LIOO above his insurance, and also lost L2O In notes. Mr Miller was not Insured, but he saved all hia stock and effects, losing only L2O by breakage In removal. It appears that Mr Bloxham’s shop had been on fire at one o’clock in the morning, and it had not been properly extinguished, The building belonged to Mr Lambert,
