OTAGO EDUCATIONAL INSTITUTE.

The monthly meeting of the Dunedin branch of the Educational Institute of Otago was held thiß day at the Normal School. Mr James Reid occupied the cl air, and about fifteen members were present. 'i he Secretary intimated that the committee appointed to draw up resolutions anent soience syllabus met on the 25th lilt., Dr Stuart, Dr Copland, Messrs Stewart, Eeid, M'Lauohlln, Mi no, and Moore being present, and carried the following resolution :—" That, as far as posBible, the syllabus be taught as a knowledge of common things in the form of object lessons during two years of the science course, and that during the third year the more systematic study of some one science he tafeeu up, provided suitable apparatus be supplied." A letter from the secretary to the Education Department stated that it was about to get from the printers' hands a supply of all the Orders-in-Council reprinted in pamphlet form, ftttd a number of these would be forwarded to the Dunedin Education office for distribution amongst teachcr3 aud others interested ; also, that the number required by the Institute would be sent.

The annual report was read and adopted. It stated that the branch comprised forty-three professional nnd twenty non-pvofessional members. Duriugtheycarthere had been ten ordinary meetings and one special, at which there had been an averago attendance of nineteen members. After alluding to the work done at these meetings the rep rt. concluded by urging on memb3ra the desirability of having an increaed attendance.

Office-bearers for the ensuing year were elected as follows :—Provident, Mr George Reid, of Forbury boIo'h; treasurer, Mr J. li Park; secretary Mr \V. J. Moore; librarian, Mr Gardner. A vote of thank* to Mr Iteid, the retiring president; Mr Kueen, the retiring secretary; aud Mr Park, treasurer, was carried.
