THE RAILWAYS.

The following telegram has been received from the Minister for Public Works : The plans for the section between Balclutba and Clinton are now ready, aud tenders will be called for within a fortnight. The time allowed to complete the contract is not to exceed twelve months. The Northern line is all under contract, excep; the Waikonaiti section, which the Government intend a shall be completed within the time specified for the completion of contracts now in course of construction on both, sides of it. The Government rccogaise the necessity of completing the section re(erred to, and will use every exertion to do so as above slated. In re interior railway communication, surveys have been made to the order of the Government, but the engineer’s report has not been yet received. _
