The amount of revenue received at the Customhouse on goods bleared for consumption this day was 1486 10a 7d. A fair business has been done daring the week orders for up- country have increased, and carriers are short of the demand, rates having consequently advanced 10a to ‘JtOa per ton. The short supply of candles is felt, and advanced prices have ‘been offered, and refused, for parcels tdrarWe. *We quote them firm at losd to 10£ d j kerosene is also better held, Devoe’s and Noonday may bo quoted nt 2s fijd to 2s 7d, and Diamond at 2s 5d j J. B. Hennesay's brandy remains at 10s for bulk, and 33s 6d for case. Sugar is unchanged; stock being held by one merchant ; the present high price is likely to be maintained. Oats are in good demand for shipment; good feed commands 2s Sd to 2s 4d. Batter is abundant, and the prices easier. The Labor Market. Mr Skene reports that inquiry is steady and in* creasing for ordinary laborers and for farm people, trained to their work. Female servants in all branches are in great demand. Couples are always moving off. The winter is beginning to tell on builders , and their men. Shepherds are ont of season. Very little doing among storemen, clerks, &c. Wages: Couples, L 65 to LBO ; day labor, 7s, Bs, and 9a ; ploughmen, L 52 to L 55 ; special, L 8 0; dairy hands, 15s, 20s, and 255; house girls, 10s, 15s, and 20s; hotel do, 12s, 15s, and 20s, and up to 30s; carpenters, 10s, lls, and 12s; cooks, waiters, barmen 20s, 255, and 80s; boys and girls, 6a to 10s.
