THE HEW ROAD BOARDS.

To the Editor.

Sir, — A Road Board election ! Egad, who would not be present on such an occasion. Talk of a civic or parliamentary allair, it is nothing to what road boards promise to be. Shades of Dunedin, forsooth ! Don’t talk of them. The bright meridian sun of Caversham puts them into obscure darkness. In the first burst of brightness, beauty, and bunkum, the nomination to-day for members of the Board stands unparalleled. As assistants for the high office of membership men of all grades presented themselves. Tailors, professors, grocers, bakers, milkmen, and all other species of the genus homo presented themselves. 'Talk of oratory ! Oh ye gods ! Only listen to the oratory unadorned of a Rutherford, M‘lndoe, M‘Gregor, or Bennett J

And then the shifting questions of a Feger, backed by the soothing, sweetening inilueuce of a Halligan ! Were they not worth the expmse of the performance ? Sir, yon arc averse to local self-govern-ment. Don't be so after this ; for bo it known to all men, and you as leader of men in particular, that for the first election of a Hoad Board in the Province, where six were wanted seventeen w. re proposed. how, after that, will you say there is no interest in local affairs ? There is no salary attached to the office, which shows the disiutcrestednes; of the candidates. And, as as a further proof of this unselfishness, after deliberately settling the election by a show of bands, into (lie gap steps the indomitable Feger and demands a poll on behalf of Bridgman. iS’ot to be left out of the race for notoriety, the demand was made decided by a Smith. Of course a Smith ; who would not be a Smith? The poll is on Saturday next; will you give your vote to Zepiio. July 23th.
