(from our OWN CORRESPONDENT.) Napier, Saturday, The Star of the South, Avhich arrived here to-day, brings dates to the 10th inst. Mr T. B. Gillies, one. of the candidates for the Superintendency, has gone to the North ; and was well received. His party has started a small organ—the Auckland Daily Kf.ios. Six of Te Kooti’s followers have arrived at Ohinemuri. The Phoebe arrived yesterday from Sydney, with dates to the 2nd. The following are some of the battery returns for the past week : —The Never-too-Late-to-Mend gave from 51b of stone 7ozlsdwt; Flying Squirrel, 401b specimens gave 58oz. The retorting of 200oz of amalgam from the Golden Crown Claim, gave 18loz. The Sunbeam promises to yield 2oz to the ton, and the City of Dunedin loz to the ton. The Long Drive’s retorting on Fiirfiiy gave 234<>z ; and the last week's crushing of the Golden Crown 9270z. Nineteen tons of stone from the Wandering Star Claim yielded 40oz ; the Gibraltar 48oz from 16 tons of stone ; the Trafalgar 420z from 30 tons of stone ; the New North Claims 3oz from 2 tons of specimen; tho Una 1970z; the Red, White, and Blue, 340z from 30 tons of stone ; and the Mariner’s 180oz from 79 tons. Wellington, Saturday. The following telegram has been received by the Government: —To the Hon. W. Fox.—l haA r o just received a telegram from Mr M'Lean, informing me that he has arranged terras of peace with Tawhiao, Rewi and his adherents. No particulars are given. I have reported that I am ready to join Mr M'Lean in the Waikato whenever he thinks it desirable. This is excellent news ._ G. F. Bowen. The Court of Appeal sat to-day. The following judgments were given : In the case of M'Kellar v. White, the appeal was allowed, and the case sent back to the arbitrators ; each party to pay his oavu costs. In the New Zealand Company v. Tho Waste Land Board of Otago, the appeal was allowed, and the rule for a new trial discharged without costs. In the case of John Fox v. Edmund Holmes, the appeal was dismissed with costs, and the judgment of the Court below affirmed. Cromwell, Saturday. New reef discoveries are reported at the back of Clyde. The latest i eef discovered is Bendigo, which is opened up 100 yards. The reef is well defined, from twelve inches to three feet thick. Good gold throughout. Magnificent specimens have been received from Colclough’s claim, and are exhibited. They are from a new part of the reef. The town is very busy with the new arrivals from Dunedin. Property is changing hands at the reef, and buildings going up rapidly.
