WASTE LAND BOARD.
The Board met this.day at noon. Present —The Chief Commissioner, Messrs Reid, Duncan, and Hughes. The following business was transacted : The application of Edwin Legge, for a lease of part of section, block 4, Table Hill, for coal mining, was granted on the usual conditions.
It was resolved that 8 000 acres be withdrawn from run 163, and that the Chief Commissioner give the month’s notice required ; to be advertised at once as open for sale on the Ist December next.
On the applica ion of John Campbell, for 30 acres of land at the Nuggets for lime works, it was ordered that t ie app’icant be requested to forward a p’an of the site. On the application of Thomas Dickson, for 15 acres around the Digger’s Rest acc mmo* dation house, Waipori read, it was resolved that the applicant must first survey the land, then obtain the i nnholder’s cancellation of lease over the part applied for. After which, the Board will consent to the sale.
William Clucass’s application for a lease of five acres at Idahum, to work for coal, was referred to the Warden for report. The application of the Seer- tary of the Presbyterian Church Committee, for sections II to 18, block 4. Fraukton, was granted, under clause 29 of the Waste Lands Act 1866.
It was resolved, in accordance with a resolution of the Executive Council, to offer the lease of the railway reserve, Papakaio, for three years, as land of special value, under clause 64 of tie Waste Lands Act, being so long retained from sale ; sections 103 and 104 at 2s an acre, and the remainder at Is per acre. Mr France to be auctioneer. The application of David Corsan to purchase sections 10 and 12, block 2, Table Mill, was granted. To be proclaimed open from the 29th September, in the Provincial Government Gazette.
Messrs Douglass, M'Lean, and Anderson’s leases, which should have been signed before October the 2nd. were declared forfeited. On Messrs Gillies and Street’s application to have section 48, block 6, Awamoko, put up for sale, it was resolve 1 that they be so;d as land of special value, having acquired special value through long retention from sale. Mr France, Oatuaru. to he auctioneer. Air Webb, as agent, applied for a quarry licence for block 3, Oamarn. It was referred to the Government, in order to get the plan of the quarries and mode of working with the acce=s to them. Mr William’Tosh applied for permission to cut flax in the Balclutha township. The Board had no objections, but could grant no exclusive privilege. Mr Edward M'Glashan’a application for 560 acres on the Woodland District, was declined. The land was ordered to be sold under the 64th clause of the Waste Land Act as land of special value, having been so long retained from sale at 21s. The auction to be at the Land Office. The Bo .rd then adjourned.
