PRESBRTERY OF DUNEDIN.
The quarterly meeting of the Presbytery of Dunedin was held in the First Church yesterday. The llev. Mr Ilyley was chosen Moderator. The Rev, Mr Gillies read a statement from the Committee of the Sustentation Fund. The Rev. Mr AVill gave notice to move its adoption at the next ordinary meeting. It was ; At Dunedin, 7th July, 1868, which day the Sustentation Fund Committee met and was c nstituted. Inter alia, the Committee resolved to forward the following recommendations uncut the distribution of the fund to the Synod for its consideration ; 1. No new charge to be sanctioned unless there is a reasonable prospect of its contributing at least LSO per annum to the fund, and if, in any after year, the contributions shall fall below that sum, a statement of the causes; and, if not satisfactory, the Committee shall be authorised to pay only the amount contributed, with one-fourth more added thereto. 2. That all congregations, with the exceptions stated above, shall receive an equal dividend. 3. No aid-receiving congregations giving supplement of more than L2O per annum to their minister shall be entitled to the full dividend, but only to a sum equal to the amount contributed. 4. On the ’occasion of a vacancy in any sanctioned charge the contribution of which for the immediately preceding year was under Ll5O, no moderation of call shall be allowed, unless there is provision made to satisfaction of the Sustentation Fund Committee for raising the fund to at least that amount. 5. All charges already sanctioned shall come under the operation of Kegulation No. 1, at the first vacancy. 6. The half-yearly returns sent in to tire 'treasurer to be accompanied with a statement as to the amount of supplement given or promised. Blank returns to be printed and supplied to the Deacons’ Courts. The Clerk was instructed to send a copy of these recommendations to each of the
Presbyteries, that they might have an opportunity of considering them before the meeting of Synod. A memorial, recommending [the cancellation of a deed of demise at Anderson’s Bay, was agreed to. The question of th ? manse at Oamaru was referred to a Committee. Additional roles were made for the better regulation of the Widows’ and Orphans’ Fund. The regulations for the appointment of Elders for Session were rescinded after some discussion. The only other business was a discussion as to the addition to the ritual of Psalmody of Hymns. On the motion of the Rev. Mr Gillies, a resolution, approving of such a course, was adopted.
