RESIDENT MAGISTRATE’S COURT.
Tins I •ay. (Before W. D. Munson, ami 11. B. Martin, Esquires, J.l’.’s) DRUNK AND DISORDERLY. Annie Hill and John Muirhead were each fined 10s or 24 hours’ imprisonment, for this offence. TIDEDAI. DETENTION. Harriet Martin, on Behalf of her husband John Bilas Martin, charged W. Smith with unlawfully detaining a number of boxes and goods, the property of J. S. Martin, to the value of L2O.
From the evidence it appeared that Mr Martin, of Ida Valley, was married some three months back, and left his wife’s property and other goods in the pare of the defendant, to be conveyed to Ida Valley by Mr Smith’s son, who is a carrier on the roads. Not receiving them, Mrs Martin and subsequently Mr Joseph Mills, on her behalf, demanded the goods, and offered to pay a reasonable storage for them. Mr Smith, on behalf of her husband, refused to give them up. The same appeared to defend the case, and asked a most unreasonable rate of storage. This the Bench would not entertain, and ordered the goods to be given up on payment of storage, at the rate of .‘ls fid a week for eleven weeks.
