MINING INTELLIGENCE.

Shippers. —ln mining matters there is a slight improvement. At Skipper's, some very good samples of stone have been obtained in the new reefs lately opened. The Prince of Wales have some fine slbne, taken from a reef twelve or fourteen feet thick, through the whole of which gold can be plainly seen : it is estimated it will run about fifteen ounces to the ton. Another claim has been taken up next to the Vulcan. On the Scandinavian the Homeward Bound have broken the shaft of their wheel, and been repairing damages, and have put in a new shaft: they will probably start crushing early next week. Southberg, Murdock, and party, are busy getting timber for their machinery, and preparing for fluming. The British and American are nearly ready for their machinery, which they expect in Queenstown daily. The lighter portions are to be taken up as soon as they arrive in Queenstown ; but a track has to be cut before the heavier parts can be removed. The sluicing companies at Skipper's have plenty of water now for carrying on their various works, and all seem satisfied to remain—a good indication of this may be seen in the gardens that many parties are making. I have seen some splendid samples of gold this week from terrace claims, and have no doubt in my own mind that the owners are obtaining good returns. In the creeks the late heavy rains, combined with melting of the snow, greatly retard mining operations.— Wakatip Mail. Maori Point. —At Maoiri Point, the sluicing claims are turning out well, some parties making as much as £2O per man per week. On the Shotover nothing is doing at the present time.— Ibid.
