Joy-spreaders Give Party

About 200 children arid their mothers were the guests of. the committee of the Mayor's Metropolitan Relief Committee and New Zealand Smith Family Joyspreaders (Inc.) on a recent morning in the council social hall. The Mayoress (Mrs. Appleton) welcomed the mothers and children and assisted Father Christmas distribute gifts from a heavily-laden Christmas tree. Ice creams were served, and both children and mothers enjoyed a happy afternoon. The usual Christmas cheer cheques have been sent to many families who will benefit by these extras at Christmas time.

Presentation at National Club

The soldiers' hospitality committee of the Wellington Central electorate of the New Zealand National Party, which welcomed and entertained members of the Armed Forces during the war. has now been disbanded, and ai a final party held recently at the National Club a presentation was made to Mrs A. Meech, convener of the group, for her inspiring leadership during the war years.

More than 400 guests were present at a ball given by their Excellencies Sir Cyril and Lady Newall, at Government House, Auckland, on Wednesday evening.
