SEARCH WIDENED

HOSPITAL ESCAPEE

P.A. AUCKLAND, November 27 An unsuccessful search was made today in swamp and scrub country for a man who jumped from a southbound goods train at Huntiy at 4.q0 this morning. It is believed he is Colin David Jarvis, last of the tour patients who escaped from the Auckland Mental Hospital on Thursday to remain at large. A sergeant and two constables who searched the Huntiy district from 5.30 in the morning until it was dark will be joined in the morning by more police. Railway employees saw a man wearing an overcoat and brown trousers leap from a wool waggon and run for some nearby scrub. His forehead was bandaged, and he appeared to have a black patch over his right eye. They did not communicate with the police until later as they did not connect the man with the mental hospital escape. The kitchen of a boarding house at Huntiy was entered in the morning and bread, butter, sausage and water taken. The owner was absent and the back door had been left open. The police warned farms in the district, and a careful search was made. It was thought tonight the man might be in rough country to the east of the town.
