CONSTITUTION OF UNESCO

Rec. 11 a.m. LONDON, Nov. 14. By acclamation, 350 delegates representing 23 nations, at the sixth plenary session of the United Nations Education Conference, today approved the preamble of Article One of the Constitution of UNESCO. Russia did not participate. In the preamble, the parties declare their belief in full and equal opportunities for the people of all nations freely to pursue the study of objective truth, and freely to exchange ideas and knowledge. The parties also declare that they are determined to develop the means of communication between "the peoples for the purposes of mutual understanding, and more true and more perfect knowledge of each other's lives.

Article One says that the purpose of UNESCO is to contribute to peace and security by promoting collaboration between the nations through science and culture;
