LONG-RANGE RADAR
Rec. 9 a.m. WASHINGTON, Oct. 27. "Loran," short for' Long Range Aid to Navigation, one of the Coast Guard's war secrets, may become available to the merchant marine, depending not only on national decisions but on international agreements. Loran is accurate to 700 miles in the daytime and 1400. miles at night, under all conditions. Shore stations send out electric impulses, which are picked up by equipped vessels, and the time taken by the signalto reach, the ship is automatically calculated, and the ship's position can be determined in a, couple of minutes.
