LADY DUFF ENTERTAINED

A most enjoyable musical programme was presented at a social afternoon held recently by the executive committee of the Englishspeaking Union. Mrs. J. L. Vinsen,' the committee's newly-elected chairwoman, welcomed the guest of honour, Lady Duff, wife of Sir Patrick Duff, High Commissioner for. the United Kingdom, and all those present. Other special guests were Mrs. W. A. Riddell, Madame Wang Feng, Mrs. O. S. Watson, Miss E. K. Morton, the well-known journalist, and Mrs. J. T. Martin, wife of the E.S.U.'s new president.

Mrs. J. Bennie arranged the afternoon's programme which comprised vocal items by Mesdames T. A. and W. J. Coventry, L. Cronin and Ward-; violin solos by Miss Patricia Hammond, with Mrs. Chas. McDonald as accompanist; elocutionary items by Mrs. C. Mclntyre, and pianoforte solos by Miss Beryl Richardson. Mesdames McCallum and Aldridge acted as accompanists. Flowers were presented to the guests and to all those who had entertained.

Afternoon tea was served prior to the presentation of the musical programme.
