OHURA CUT OFF
PIGHUNTER DROWNED
P.A. TAUMARUNUI, This Day. Heavy flooding has occurred in the Ohura district, and the town of Ohura is isolated by road and rail. The flood was heaviest at 11 o'clock last night, and several people were evacuated from their homes. The water invaded Kallil's garage, the County Council office, the Cosmopolitan Club, and the Catholic Church, and there were 18 inches of water in the main streets.
Slips were reported at several places. Trains were held up by slips at Tokirima and Tangarakau, and the water was still rising at Toi Toi, near Ohura, this morning.
Yesterday W. Huckle, 18-year-old son of Mr. H. Huckle, was drowned at Opatu, 18 miles from Ohura, while crossing a stream during a pig-hunt-ing expedition. His companions state that he was washed off his feet and was not seen again. The body has not been recovered.
The Wanganui River at Taumarunui is in high flood. Some areas near the river are under water, but no serious damage has been reported.
