HONG KOMG SURRENDER

LONDON, September 12,

British, commandos and a Spitfire squadron arrived at" Hong Kong today to take over from the Royal Navy. The formal surrender in Hong Kong is expected to take place any day.

Hong Kong is recovering quickly from the three and a half years of Japanese occupation, though there is considerable bomb damage to shipyards, arid many houses have been gutted.

The Duke of York left Okinawa to<3ay for Hong Kong.

The British Counsellor at Chungking, who arrived at Singapore a few days ago, reports that the morale in the internment camps is high and the health of the internees generally good.
