CABARET TEA-DANCE

VICTORIA LEAGUE YOUNGER

CONTINGENT

As a result of the tea-dance held at the Majestic Cabaret between 5 and 7 o'clock last evening, a substantial sum was raised by the "younger contingent of the Victoria League. The proceeds will go towards the Wellington contingent's annual contribution to the Gertrude Drayton Memorial Fund, which was opened after the death of Miss Drayton, London, secretary of the Victoria League, when the London headquarters were destroyed, by a bomb. Members gave the effort whole-hearted support, with the result that there was an attendance of about 400, all the tables on both the cabaret floor and the balcony were requisitioned. A party of 26 servicemen patients from the Public and Mowai Red Cross Hospitals were special guests, league members who belong to the Red Cross transport unit bringing them to and from, the dance. Girls of the younger contingent served refreshments, checked coats, did duty in the ticket box, and acted as ushers, while members of the camp concert party entertained with a bright floor show comprising an Eastern and a tap ballet, and a number of Maori action songs, including the difficult "Long Poi." -Violin solos were given by Miss Loretto Cunninghame. Mrs. J. A. Doctor, league president, thanked members and friends for their support and also the management of the cabaret for their assistance.
