FLYING TO BLACK B&RET P.A. AUCKLAND, Sept. S. Enjoying a good run throughout, Batal, a brown colt by Battle Song from that good race-mare Alma, won the Avondale Guineas for Mr. W. S. Goosman, who paid 1300 guineas for him as a yearling. The favourite, Master Robin, lost ground on the turns, but he finished solidly to get up to beat General Lytup for second. Balrnacara, who was in the van after passing the five-furlong post, weakened into fourth. - At the rear early, Our Gold improved his position before the turn was reached and was one of the first to reach the straight. He was hotly challenged by Chung Chong over the final furlong, but he held the favourite off to score by three-quarters of a length. Abbey Fox was a good third, with Waiting a close fourth. Both Constitution and Hippodrome compounded in the straight. .
