HONOURS TO CHAMOSSAIRE (By Telegraph—Press Association—Copyright.) Rec. 9.30 a.m. LONDON, Sept. 5. The following was the result of the St. Leger, the final classic, which was run at York yesterday:— ST. LEGER STAKES, a sweepstakes of £100, with £4000 added; for three-year-old colts and fillies; about 1 mile and 6 furlongs. Squadron Leader Stanhope Joel's eh c Chamossaire (Precipitation —Snowberry), 9.0 I His Majesty's b c Rising Light (Hyperion—Bread Card), 9.0 .. 1 Mr. A. E. Saunders's br c Stirling Castle (Scottish Union—Town Kate)T 9.0 3 Won by two lengths, with threequarters of a length between second third. Time, 2.56 3-5. The winner was bought at the yearling sales at Newmarket by Squadron Leader Joel for-1270 guineas, the col J having been bred at the National Stud He is by Precipitation, a chestnut horse by Hurry On from the Bachelor's Double mare Double Life, who during his own racing career won seven races and £18,419 in stakes. At three years he won the King Edward VII Stakes H miles, at Ascot; Gratwicke Produce Stakes, U miles, at Goodwood; Hyperion Stakes, 1£ miles and 146 yards, at Hurst Park; and the Jockey Clufc Stakes, 15 miles, at Newmarket, beating Boswell by two lengths. At four years he won the. Victor Wild Stakes li miles, and Queen's Prize, 2 miles, both at Kempton; and the Ascot Gold Cup, 2£ miles. He also won the Royal Standard Stakes at Newmarket, bui was disqualified. Snowberry, the dam of Chamossaire, was by Cameronian from Myrobella, and she raced as a two-year-old only, winning twice and running second twice in her five starts. Hei two successes were registered in the Salisbury Foal Stakes, five furlongs, at Salisbury, and the Queen Mary Stakes, five furlongs, at Ascot. Chamossaire was accorded three outings last season for wins in the Wickhambrook Stakes, six furlongs, at Newmarket, and the Mepal Stakes, six furlongs, on the same course a month later. Midas, who ran second to Dante in this year's Derby, was among the beaten lot in the Mepal Stakes. As a two-year-old last season Rising Light was accorded only one start for a fourth in the Isleham Stakes, six furlongs, at Newmarket. Stirling Castle, however, had four starts for a third only. That placing came at his last start, in the Staines Plate, one mile, at Windsor. —"Binocular."
