RUSSIA'S VICTORY DAY
NATION-WIDE CELEBRATIONS
LONDON, September 3. The Moscow home radio began Russia's victory holiday today with a detailed account of the Japanese capitulation ceremony aboard the Missouri in Tokio Bay. The broadcast, which lasted for a quarter of an hour, paid a special tribute to the big part the United States played in the Pacific victory.
Celebrations are going on throughout the country. Although heavy rain in Moscow somewhat dampened th« proceedings, huge pictures of Stalin and the principal generals were displayed in the main thoroughfares. In an order of the day to the Red Army and Navy, Generalissimo Stalin congratulated them on the victorious end of the war against Japan, and ordered 24 salvos from 324 guns to ba fired in Moscow tonight.
