THIRDS AND FOURTHS

The Wellington third and fourth grade representatives carried out their engagements on Saturday afternoon in spite of the bad weather, the thirds meeting the Wairarapa juniors at Wakefield Park and the fourths meeting the Horowhenua under-19 representatives at Levin. Both matches were closely contested, and the winning margin in each case was a point. Wairarapa beat Wellington by 9 points to 8. S. Walsh and McCarthy each scored a try and Walsh kicked a penalty "goal for Wairarapa. Smith scored a try for Wellington, and it was converted by Helmsley, who also kicked a penalty goal. ; Wellington beat Hbrowhenua by 6 points to 5 in a match which, with rain falling continuously, became little more than a mud scramble. The players, however, kept at a difficult task keenly.
