MONEYED YOUTH
COMPULSORY SAVINGS
A national and compulsory savings* scheme for young people who were earning more money than they were able to handle properly was suggested in the Budget debate in the House ot Representatives yesterday afternoon by Mr. J. A. McL. Roy (National, Clutha), who said that many people were concerned i,bout the position. Many young persons were receiving very large wages, said Mr. Roy, and unfortunately they were not handling that money wisely. He was not ...objecting to their receiving it, but he was concerned about the way in which the money was being spent. They did not require all the money they received, and it would be much better for their characters and their future if there were a scheme under which the balance not. required were compulsorily paid into a savings account. They would then be able to draw it later in life when they had acquired understanding and discretion, and it would have helped ■ them to learn better ways in the handling of money. . •'
