VICTORY TEST MATCH
LONDON, August 8. The second day's play in the fourth. Victory Test between England and Australia at Lord's opened under a dull grey sky, but. the ground was again packed. ~ '. . _ At lunch Australia were all put for 388. Miller's magnificent ended at 118 after he had hatted for three hours 15 minutes. He hit 1U fours. The other top scorers were Pepper, 57, and Pettiford, 32. Brilliant batting by the openers, Hutton and Fishlock, and later the enterprising batting of Robertson, Hammond, and Washbrook gave England a very good start. The game seems certain now to result in a draw. It took Australia seven hours to knock uo 388. England scored 249 in exactlyhalf that time. Australia was handicapped by the loss of the wicketkeepej* Sismev, who had injured his hand.
