Tokio radio announced that 5000 Allied troops landed at Lingkas on Tarakan Island at 6.30 s.m. on May 1, Japanese time. Later- Tokio radio stated that the Japanese garrison forces on Tarakan were at present fiercely attacking the invaders.

The battleships Queen Elizabeth and Richelieu bombarded Nicobar Island on May 1 for the third consecutive day. '
