LETTERS TO THE EDITOR
SMOKING RATIONS
Sir,—l have just returned to New Zealand after four years' service overseas. I have had my medical board and have got my leave pass and tobacco coupons, etc.. At the Army canteen I presented my coupon for tobacco and asked for one p_acket of tobacco and five packets of cigarettes, which I understood was the issue per week. Much to my surprise and disgust, the sergeant in charge informed me that the rations for smokes had been cut in half and I was only entitled to either one packet of tobacco or live packets of cigarettes per week. It seems strange to me, after all the good news regarding the war, that in the dying stages the .canteen board had to dampen everything by cutting the tobacco issue in half. I for one wish to enter a protest.—l am, etc., KETURNED 2nd N.Z.E.F.
