PUBLIC SERVICE
REVISION OF WAGES
P-A. GISBORNE. This Day. ' Direct action would be against the policy of your association," said Mr A. H. O'Keefe, national president of the Public Service Association, at a meeting of Gisborne public servants, when replying to a question regarding the strike action taken by the railway workers in January. " Representatives of all the other State organisations attended the meeting by invitation. "The Prime Minister assured the national executive, that early and every consideration would be given to the recommendations of the consultative committee appointed by the Government at the association's request to formulate new salary scales for the entire Public Service," continued Mr. O'Keefe. "In response to the association's representations the Railway Tribunal's findings have been applied to the Public Service. The salaries were retrospective to June 30, 1944 The consultative committee was now formulating with the Prime Minister's approval new salary scales and will submit its recommendations to the Government for consideration."
The following resolution was passed unanimously: "The Gisborne public servants approve the action taken by the national executive to have the salary scales revised. They appreciated that the application of the Railway Tribunal findings to the Public Service salary scales is only an interim adjustment and pledge their full support to any actipn that the national executive takes to ensure the recommendations of the consultative committee being carried into effect"
