POST-WAR SCHEME

COMPLETE AIR COVERAGE OF

AUSTRALIA

Rec. 1.15 p.m. MELBOURNE, Feb. 6. Details of a post-war scheme for complete air coverage of Australia have been announced by the Airline Operators' Secretariat.

The scheme provides for daily services between important centres; weekly services for remote and isolated areas; a minimum of seven trips a day each way between Melbourne and Sydney; a flight of seven hours between Melbourne and Perth; a oneday flight between Melbourne and Darwin. More than 50 per cent, of all country residents would thus be able to reach their nearest capital city within two hours. 30 per cent, within four hours, and the remainder within six hours. The capacity of the planes would vary from 10 to 40 passengers, and freight planes would carry from three to ten tons.
