Corporal G. B. Ironside,
particular engagement the official war correspondent with the N.Z.E.F. commented that "Although wounded through the left side, Corporal G. B. Ironside refused to give in. When ammunition ran short he went back for further supplies 'to clean them up.' Ironside had to be forcefully removed from the scene so that: his wound could be dressed." Having recovered from his wound Corporal Ironside returned to New Zealand in May of the same year, and shortly after that departed for the Middle East, being anxious to join up with a younger brother serving in Italy. This reunion took place at the end of October.
