TAKING OVER OF BANK

At a meeting this week members of all Wellington branches of the Democratic Labour Party carried unanimously the following resolution:— "That this meeting is in accord with the motion passed at the recent Labour conference regarding the taking over of the Bank of New Zealand by the Government, as it is considered it is a step in the right direction, but one which should have been taken six years ago. That while we are in accord with the motion, we have no confidence in the Minister of Finance to take the necessary steps to put such legislation on the Statute Books. Also, we are not satisfied with the taking over of one bank only, as the policy of the Democratic Labour Party is the complete control of the issue of currency and credit, and this would necessitate the socialisation of all banks."
