LAST RAID ON TOKIO
DAMAGE TO PLANE PLANT
Rec. 11.30 a.m. NEW YORK, Dec. 5. "Substantial damage has been inflicted on the Mushashima aircraft plant in Tokio, but it wasn't destroyed by a damned sight," said BrigadierGeneral Hansell, when addressing a Press conference on Saipan. He added that weather conditions in the Tokio area for the past fortnight had not only handicapped observation of the bombing results, but had interferred with the accuracy of the bombing. The raiders had encountered extremely high winds, especially on last Sunday, when winds approaching 200 miles an hour increased the difficulty of the aiming and timing runs.
HUGE BOMBER RAMMED
NEW YORK, December 4. The United Press correspondent on Saipan says a Japanese fighter rammed a Super-Fortress at a high altitude over Tokio on Sunday, ripping out part of one engine and nacelle but the bomber reached Saipan safely. The fighter smashed into another enemy fighter and both plunged to the ground.
