THIRD DAY IN JANUARY

With the inclusion of an extra date at the Wellington Racing Club's Summer Meeting, racing will now be on January 20, ,22, and 2.7 at Trentham. The final day will be a patriotic date, and a programme of eight races has been drawn up ,vith stake-money of £4200 attached. The principal event, the Patriotic Handicap, II ' miles, will carry £1000. and a -gold cup valued at £100, which has been presented by Mr. R. J. Murphy, will go to the owner of the winner. Another £100 trophy, presented by the Wellington Racing Club's office and racecourse permanent staffs and raceday officials, has been attached to the Staff Cup Handicap, a hack race of 1 mile and 3 furlongs, the stakemoney being £400. Other events completing the card are the Wallaceville Highweight, £350, 11 furlongs; Hopeful Stakes. £500, two-year-olds, 5 furlongs; Melrose Hack Handicap, £350, 7 furlongs; Kaitoke Hack Handicap. £350; 1 mile; Thorndon Handicap, £500, 1 mile; City Handicap, £750, 6 furlongs. The club is .providing for a fourth prize in the Wellington Cup, Telegraph Handicap, and Anniversary Handicap on the first day of its Summer Meeting, and in the January Handicap, Racing Club Handicap, Metropolitan Handicap, and Douro Handicap on the second day.
