THREE BIG PLANES

LOST IN RAID UPON JAPAN

Rec. 10 a.m. WASHINGTON, Nov. 22. Two Super-Fortresses were definitely lost to enemy fighters in what was probably their greatest air battle over the Japanese homeland yesterday, says a Twentieth Air Force communique. Another Super-Fortress has not been reported, and under the circumstances must be presumed to be lost.

A message from Chungking says that Liberators bombed the docks at Hong Kong and Kowloon on the nights of November 19 and 20, also Fort Bayard, where heavy fires were observed. General Wedemeyer's communique says that Warhawks sank a steamer on the Yangtze River, destroyed railcars, trucks, and sampans, and strafed Japanese troops. Mitchells bombed and set fire to buildings and barracks in Lashio. Fighters strafed Japanese positions on the Salween front, Lashio, and Chefang.
