CAP GRIS-NEZ BATTERIES
LONDON, October S. Some of the giant guns at Cap GrisNez fired between 40 and 50 rounds a day against the Dover coast, with halfhour intervals for cooling after five consecutive rounds, says Reuters correspondent with the Canadian' First Army. There were three batteries of 150----millimetre and 380-millimetre guns. One battery had a full traverse, but the others could be fired only to sea. Only one gun was affected by the heavy bombing' which preceded tHe final Allied attack. The recent shelling of Dover caused such havoc and destroyed so many houses that the Mayor of Dover has issued an appeal to evacuated residents of Dover not to return yet because of insufficient houses for those already there.
