PURGE IN BELGIUM
OVER 40,000 SUSPECTS
Rec. 10.40 a.m. LONDON, Octobers. "The Belgian prisons are bulging with over 40,000 suspected collaborators who were arrested in a swift but.calm purge," says the Brussels correspondent of the Associated Press of Great Britain. "About 20 military tribunate are dealing out justice in Brussels, Namur, Ghent, Antwerp, Bruges, Liege, and Charleroy, and at least ten traitors have been sentenced to. death. No executions have been carried out in Belgium in the last 30 years, but the Belgians are how firmly opposed to clemency."
