RINK AND SUBDUED
PARTNERS IN GOOD TRIAL
(Special to "The Post.") PALMERSTON N., This Day. Horses with important engagements at Wellington, ..and-, candidates for Otaki and Masterton, were Worked yesterday. under ideal conditions. The going, with the flags 40ft out, was really good: . . Sir Bradbury- (A. G. Waddell) gave a very smooth performance over five furlongs, which he covered in 1.3 4-5,: after being givenitime to find his feet.., He* broke 38sec for the last three.' j Jonathan Jo (W. J. Broughton) and Sunblaze (W. E. Carter) worked over five furlongs, the former holding a slight advantage "at the:;, finish* .- The full distance took-1.7 1-5, and the last Subdued (S. Waddell) and Rink (A. S. Ewan) attracted much attention in a-trial Over nearly, nine furlongs. The pace was good early, but they were steadied as they approached the mile. With Rink on the outer and going easily, they ran from the mile to the three-furlong post in 1.11 2-5, Subdued being about a neck in front. There was no change into the straight, but Rink moved up to be on term? at the post.. The time for the full distance was 1.51 2-5, the last .seven in 1.36 2-5, the ".last five in 1.7 -3-5, and the last three in 40sec..; IjUhk went particularly well,7,"and Subdued finished better than usual. Another good gallop was that of Don Quex (A. G. .Waddell) and Classform (S. Waddell). They started off at 15sec to the furlong, but from the five-furlong post the pace was increased, and they came home in 1.7 to complete in 1.52, time they could have improved upon. Bay Robe (W. J. Stevens) and Monmouth (V. Sellars) were together and going well at the end of seven furlongs in 1.38 1-5. Dunbar (A. G. Waddell) and Langue dOr (S. Waddell) were together and going easily at the\ end of a mile in 1.54. They broke 40sec for the last three. Happy Ending (H. Pearce) and Salmi (Broughton)', after taking 16 2-5 sec for the first furlong, speeded up to run the last three of four in 37 3-ssec. Salmi looks well, but is carrying plenty of condition. Intense (A. G. Waddell) was home in 39 4-ssec to complete, a very nice seven in 1.40 4-5. Solver (S. Waddell) and Dileas (Ewan) covered the last three furlongs of a mile in 40sec, running the full distance in 1.53 3-5. Both worked kindly. Blanket (S. Waddell) and a companion sprinted five furlongs in 1.7 3-5, the last three in 39 2-ssec. Brilliant Scholar (J. Kendall) and Mary Jo (R. B. Bowness) maintained an even pace over a. mile, running the last six furlongs in 1.25 and the last three in 41sec. OVER THE SCHOOLING HURDLES. J A number of horses were schooled during the morning, including PoHuka (J. Jenkins) and Ascot Bloom (Miss Freda White). They gave a sound exhibition over four flights with . the pace on. Whero (R. B. Ireland) went well over three flights. Park Light (Miss White) and Aristocrat (Ireland) pleased in a similar task. Gay Flame (Miss White) jumped cleanly over three flights. Phalaria (J Fagan) jumped four flights well, and Broiefield (Fagan) went twice round. One of the best trials-was that of Lightfair (Bowry) and Greek Effort (A. Midwood) over four flights.
