RACEHORSES FIGHT
LOOSE-BOXES OPENED
P.A. NAPIER, This Day. Believed to have been deliberately let out of their stables at Greenmeadows Kindergarten and his halfbrother. Golden Souvenir, are suffering extensive injuries following a battle in the stable yard in the early hours of yesterday morning.
About 2.30 one of the stable hands heard a .noise of horses in the yard and found Kindergarten, Golden Souvenir, and two mares, one of them Silver Coin, let out. The horses had been fighting. Golden Souvenir had re<ceived the worst of the battle, during which he was thrown over a. railing fence. He was found wandering on the road in.-a groggy condition. Golden Souvenir was cut about the legs, neck, and head. Kindergarten was gashed on the legs. Yesterday morning Kindergarten was still showing signs of fight. When his trainer, J. Nicholson, took his jockey, J. Campbell, to see the horse Kindergarten attacked the trainer, inflicting a gash on the face by biting. The gash required eleven stitches.
The injuries of the horses, though bad enough, will not terminate their racing careers, although Golden Souvenir is not expected to make the trip to Otaki or Masterton. -
