MARKED DECLINE
LUFTWAFFE ACTIVITY
Rec- 12.50 p.m. RUGBY, October 1. The Lufiwaffe in central Europe is apparently on the way out, for during September a miserable total of ll hgnters were sent up to oppose bombing operations from Italy. Fourteen German aircraft were destroyed One factor in the marked decline in enemy opposition is that aircraft based m Italy accounted for 1003 enemy aircratt destroyed in the air and 886 on the ground in the period from July to September, but the transfer of fighters to tbe west may be another factor.—B.O.W.
