TENNIS OPENING
. The Talavera Municipal Tennis Club's season was opened officially on Saturday by Councillor Macalister, chairman of tho City Council's reserves committee. There was an attendance of about 40, including representatives of other -clubs. : Councillor Macalister complimented the club upon the neat appearance of the courts and the surrounding lawns and gardens. Mr. J: Neale. .of the Wellington Laws. Tennis- Association, : pointed to interclub competition, as being ; valuable, not onlyin advancing the standard of play, but also the social side of the game. The management committee felt that it would be a sad reflection on those who remained at home if servicemen returned to 'find that through lack of interest and a. little'hard: work the game was without a -competitivfi centre, of its own in Wellington.
