CHURCH CELEBRATIONS
September was occupied at Webb Street Methodist Church by celebrating the hundred years of Primitive Methodism in New Zealand. The Rev. Robert Ward arrived in New Plymouth in September, 1844, and found a country then in the early stages of cultivation and early development. All Methodists looked with feelings of pride to those humble beginnings to establish Christian institutions in this country. The Webb Street Methodist Church is now the last ex-Primitive Methodist Church which remains open in Wellington for. public worship The 5 eY;.w- A* Burley. chairman of the Wellington district, the Rev. Archer O. Harris, of Petone, the Rev. T. A Symonds, director of youth work, and the Minister of Agriculture (Mr. Roberts), took part in the celebrations. The attendances were good, sincere and, encouraging. Mr. Roberts paid a fine tribute to the pioneer missionary spirit which inspired the work oi the pathfinders of New Zealand Methodism.
