ARC WELDING

GAZING INJURIOUS

The spectacle of electricians doing arc welding on the tramways invari- • ably attracts groups of gazers, by no means all children, whom the glare fascinates. It is most injurious to the eyes, and when the men are working on the one place for any length of " time a shield is put up to protect the eyes of the public. In the case of the tramways, however, the frequent passage of trams, and the removal of all equipment temporarily, makes this impossible. Steady gazing at the r powerful light has ill effects on the eyes which may not wear off soon.
