GAS SUPPLY LOW
Gas supplies are still low, it was stated on behalf of the Wellington Gas Company today, and it is therefore necessary to continue the restrictions in the meantime.
will furnish 50,000 tons of laundry soap, and Canada will deliver 17,500 tons in twelve months. Milk is so short that an allocation has not yet been made. Sugar to be supplied in 1945 is expected to be a million tons below the demand, exclusive of UNRRA's needs.
Governor Lehman cautioned the United Nations not to be deceived by" reports from the now liberated areas indicating that suffering is not so great as was'previously thought. He pointed out that such, reports are far outweighed by others, indicating that the enemy has been more ruthless than has been known or anticipated.
Pointing out that some of the member nations had not yet contributed to or made arrangements to create credits and that only 25 of the, 40 members have fully paid their contributions. Governor Lehman said that UNRRA can fulfil its tasks only with the wholehearted and vigorous support of all the members.
