MEAT AND CREAM

TIGHTENING RESTRICTIONS

A recent amendment to the Rationing Emergency Regulations provides that all meat, with the exception; of farmers' killings for home consumption, now comes within rationing control from the time'of slaughter of the stock. ..."'.' Commenting on the amendment today, the Minister of Supply and Munitions (Mr. Sullivan) said that special authority will be given to cover farmers' sharing arrangements, but otherwise meat may not ,be supplied to anyone without permit, regardless of who owns the stock or where it-is slaughtered. This particularly concerns hotels and Institutions which maintain their'''own farms for supplying- their meat requirements. "In order to deal with'various contingencies arising from rationings administration," said the Minister, "additions have been made to the list of rationing offences to include aiding and abetting and the making of untrue and misleading statements, while offences by a servant or agent are now deemed 1 to be committed also by his employer or principal. ■ /- - "The amendment also includes provision for the tightening up of the existing cream restrictions. Previously an offence^ could only be committed by a purchaser or trader using or consuming cream or supplying a consumer. The new clause makes it an offence to use or supply cream in all cases except under permit." . The Minister added that the amending -regulations were of a routine nature and were designed to remove anomalies and tighten control where administrative weaknesses had been revealed.
