CYLINDERS OF GAS

REPORTED ON WAY FROM GERMANY

NEW YORK, August 31. Several special trains carrying gas have passed through Belgium and Holland towards the Channel coast, says a report .from Stockholm. This supports reports that the Germans are preparing to use gas •as a last effortto avert defeat. The report adds that poison gas escaped from cylinders on a heavilyguarded train which travelled through Holland from Germany last week, after it had been strafed by an Allied plane. Several train guards were killed by the' escaping gas. which is supposed to have a new and terrible effect against which ordinary gas masks are useless.
