BLITZ DAMAGE

COST TO CITY OF LONDON

LONDON, July 27. The reconstruction of the City of London without further destruction would cost £150,000,000 or more, and may take 50 or 60 years to complete, said Mr. Wilfrid Hatch, chairman of the rates and finance committee,, when a draft plan for the development of the city was presented to the Court of Comm6n Council at the Guildhall.

He added that the blitz cost the City of London 26 per cent, of its assessed value, which meant a loss of rates of more than £1,000,000 a year

Mr. Claude Dennis, chairman of the committee responsible for the reconstruction plan, said it was the city's greatest opportunity for replanning since the Great Fire of London.
