BOWLING

N.Z. TOURNAMENT

P.A. AUCKLAND, July 26. Delegates to the NeAV Zealand Bowling Association decided to hold the next NeAV Zealand championship tournament in Auckland, to start on January 9, 1945. Auckland councillors were elected as the executive for the ensuing season, and Avere also appointed a tournament committee Avith poAver to add. Messrs. W. W. King and W J. Short Avere elected joint secretaries of the association for 1944-45. Mr. S. Coldicutt was elected treasurer and Mr. F. Mason auditor. The usual order of play Avas agreed on for the championships next January, that is, singles first, folloAved by pairs and fours. An alteration in the system of playing singles Avas made, a reversion to the automatic two-life system being decided on. A remit from the Wellington centre that a permanent secretary Avith permanent headquarters be appointed instead of the present system of rotation Avas almost unanimously defeated. Tavo remits from, the Otago Central centre Avere passed as. follows: (1) That it shall be an offence for any player or players deliberately to lose lor attempt to lose anv game which I mav facilitate the qualifying for postsection play of his or their opponent or opponents; (2) it shall be an offence for any player or players to conspn*e with his or their opponents to lose a game under similar conditions. The conference resolved that the penalty in either case should be disqualification for tAvo years. , - The Wanganui centre introduced the question of playing boys in tournaments, with a remit that no one under the age of 21 years should be alloAved to play in open tournaments conducted by any centre. This was lost Avith the proviso that the council' disap-pi-OA-ed of able-bodied civilians under the age o£ 21 competing in tournaments. Such proviso, it was considered, Avould protect.the interest ot any young servicemen returning from overseas with a disability which would preA'ent their participating in other branches of outdoor sport. _ It Avas resolved to affiliate with the NeAV Zealand Council of Sport. . The annual meeting vvill be held in Christchurch: The application of the Southland centre for permission to conduct a South Island championship tournament from December 26 next to January' 3 was granted.
