HARD OF HEARING

■ , ■ ■ ■ \ LEAGUE'S ANNUAL;MEETING

"The hard of hearing community is becoming conscious of the fact that the semi-isolation, so long regarded as inevitable with hearing loss, is pot insurmpuntable, and the realisation ij growing that much of the handicap can be overcome by concerted action," said Mr. S. Mansfield, president of the Wellington branch of the New Zealand League for the Hard of Hearing, at the annual meeting yesterday. L "This growing realisation is most encouraging, for in it lies the salvation of the hard of hearing. The consequent ever-widening scope of our activities, however, brings with it new problems which have to be faced. The past work of the league has indeed been excellent and most praiseworthy, but we. now stand at - tha crossroads, the problem facing us being that we have outgrown our, present constitution." Mr. Mansfield said that the establishment of a new constitution would be of outstanding importance during the coming year, but if all adopted a broad outlook, there was no reason why it should not be successfully achieved. " "\ ,'. "" „• The election of officers resulted: President, Mr. S. Mansfield; honorary secretary, Mrs. J. F. Nicholson; honorary treasurer, Mr. I.
