THE BELLS OF VICTORY
' "Four years ago the church bells of [Britain were silenced in order that they might be used to give warning of an invasion, and Mussolini was [strutting about like a poulter pigeon," (said his Excellency the GovernorGeneral (Sir Cyril Newall), who is visiting Thames with Eady Newall. "Now the bells are ringing for the .victory at Rome and Mussolini is like a punctured balloon.
"Ws take this victory as joyous news," added his Excellency, "but let ius not forget the price we have had :to pay for it and the difficulty of determining when the war will be finally ;;won."
The position of the Allies today was 'very favourable and such victories as these should rightly be celebrated, not merely for the sake of rejoicing, but as .an inspiration to all to help to shorten the duration of the war.
