HOSPITAL WORKS
Sir—ln reply to the further letter from' Mr. H. F. Toogood appearing in Friday evening's paper, there are two points I would like to reply to here. Firstly, that the dates supplied by Mr. Toogood answer his earlier charge, that the Hospital Board of 1935-1941 did nothing to meet the shortage of hospital bed accommodation, his reply showing that the board adopted sketch plans for the Hutt Hospital within, a few months of the Royal Commission's report in August, 1938. , . . As to his other charges it surely is ridiculous to suggest that any board would design a hospital block without a dispensary, admission and records department, etc. All these were provided for, but to hasten actual building the bed block plans were fully developed and the construction pushed ahead, the other blocks to follow immediately. However, Sir, any further discussion that may be necessary may well take place at the Hospital Board table, now that both Mr. Toogood and myself have been returned by the electors.—l am, etc., ARTHUR H. CARMAN.
